CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- With Sony Pictures Imageworks
Starship Troopers VRML game, based on the new TriStar Pictures release
directed by Paul Verhoeven (opens nationwide 11/7/97), every red-blooded
citizen can do their share in humanity's war against the alien menace. The
Trooper outpost on Planet P has been overrun by huge, killer bugs with major
attitude problems. Shoulder that rifle, trooper, and give those filthy bugs a
good dose of lead poisoning! If you're in the mood for a little bug barbecue,

The stunning visual quality of the game should come as no surprise.
Imageworks, a top name in visual effects, for film, drafted some of its best
talent for Troopers VRML duty. The producers of the movie, along with the
producers of the website, Columbia TriStar Interactive, worked closely with
the VRML team to create a gaming experience that is true to the look and feel
of the film. Beautifully textured warrior bugs skitter and attack, while
hopper bugs buzz by at low altitude, looking for someone to decapitate. There
is even a magma-spitting tanker bug ready to get between you and glory.
Working closely with Sony's Architecture Lab in Tokyo, Imageworks has
created a product that breaks common perceptions of VRML's capabilities. The
single-player game has a feel similar to traditional first-person 3D shooters.
It is VRML 2.0 compliant and takes advantage of many custom features of Sony's
Community Place browser. A keyboard interface allows a full range of movement
including climbing and strafing, while a Java-powered status window keeps
track of health, weapons, and score.
"The Starship Troopers VRML game is part of an emerging trend in feature
film promotion," says Dana Hanna, producer and designer of the game. "On-line
gaming is becoming an increasingly potent means of drawing and retaining
website visitors. VRML with its 3D capability add another dimension."
The Starship Troopers VRML game requires Windows '95, a Pentium 133 or
better, and at least 16MB of RAM. Although hardware acceleration is not
 required, it is recommended.
