Sophia Perkovich Appointed President of Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy - Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sophia Perkovich has been appointed president of Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy – Scottsdale campus.
"We're pleased to welcome Sophia to our Scottsdale campus," said Arlin Schmidt, CEO of Cortiva Institute. "She brings with her over 15 years of experience in massage therapy and massage therapy education and an energetic dedication to inspiring and guiding future massage therapists."
Perkovich has been practicing massage therapy since 1995 in a variety of environments with a specialty in rehabilitation and chronic care. As a former instructor, clinic director, dean of education, campus director, education consultant and consultant to the state of Arizona, Perkovich has an extensive background in massage therapy. She was educated in Ontario, Canada where she completed a 3,000-hour program in clinical massage therapy. To complement her massage studies, Perkovich also studied gross anatomy and biological sciences.
One of the biggest opportunities and challenges Perkovich takes on as president of Cortiva- Scottsdale is helping to educate the public about the accessibility of massage therapy for everyone. "We sometimes hear 'massage is a luxury that I can't afford,' but in actuality, massage therapy is an integral part of health care and preventative medicine," she says. According to Perkovich, massage therapy benefits people with injuries, chronic illness or individuals with stress. "The strength of massage therapy is in preventing illness and conditions before they develop." Accessible and affordable massage therapy, she says, is becoming more and more available to most Americans with the presence of massage therapy locations such as Massage Envy in many cities. Universities and massage therapy schools like Cortiva also offer discounted massage therapy provided by supervised students.
Perkovich has been affiliated with Cortiva Institute since 2006 as a faculty member and Director of Education prior to her appointment as president of the campus.
