DENVER, Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In response to consumer demand for greater flexibility in how operators deploy networks, Sorrento Networks recently introduced a new WDM passive filter product family, which will allow customers to expand their broadband offerings to keep up with growing consumer data traffic.

Sorrento customers can now reduce the cost of expanding their networks by leveraging fiber cables already in place. Sorrento's WDM passive filters offer some of the lowest insertion loss levels and highest quality metrics available, but are also price competitive. The broadband expansion solution can be utilized in various forms, including LGX chassis, outside plant enclosures and proprietary rack mount systems. The solution can also be employed with Sorrento's GigaMux Metro WDM systems.

"Our filter products help our customers plan for future growth without additional capital expenditures, saving them time and money," said Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. "This allows them to incorporate our passive filter into their optical fiber network, which enables it to use multiple wavelengths from any vendor or equipment device it needs." Nevelle added that Sorrento's filter products are compatible with all standards-based interfaces.

"Passive optical filters allow service providers an economical way to increase fiber capacity and allow for multiple optical wavelengths along existing single fibers," said Rodney Wise, director of technology at Walker and Associates, a Sorrento Networks distribution partner. "Optical filters also provide a simple solution to the problems posted by multiple-carrier separation: to allow traffic on specific wavelengths to any carrier. The broadband expansion solutions product offered by Sorrento Networks provides lower power loss, thereby reducing the number of optical amplifier considerations and greatly improving the simplicity of the overall network design."

The broadband expansion solutions product family includes:

  • Hardened enclosure filter modules – Multiply fiber traffic capacity up to 40 times with splice enclosure filter modules.
  • LGX-compatible modules – Add optical multiplexing functionality to unoccupied rack space.
