Spanish Consulate rejects claims of Spanish blood in a Puerto Rican woman
LOS ANGELES, June 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- On November 2012, Spain announced the descendants of the Sephardim could get their Spanish citizenship back after more than 500 years away from Spain. Puerto Ricans on the other hand are being left out of the loop, but one woman is challenging that.
Paloma Ramos, and she is calling for a boycott of Spain for discrimination that can be found at "www.boycottspain.com". She explains that the Spanish Consulate informed her with a smile "You have to have Spanish Blood " without looking at her papers and denied her request even though all her documents are in order. She went on to say "Every Puerto Ricans has Spanish blood and as a daughter of Puerto Rico and Spain I will not allow Spain to deny its role in a history of almost 400 hundred years of slavery and marriages because denying the legitimacy of my Spanish blood or claim you deny your role in history and I will not allow you to do that."
She continued to say "Puerto Ricans have a right to reclaim what was taken from them through discrimination at the end of the Spanish American war and that no Puerto Rican renounced Spain, so why does Spain bear such ill will towards Puerto Ricans?" Citing the Spanish Constitution of 1876 which was in effect when the Spanish American war occurred, she continued to explain that the citizenship was still their and validated by the Spanish Constitution of 1931 up until the present Spanish Constitution of 1978, which is in use today. She says she will not stop calling for a boycott of Spain until Spain does the right thing by Puerto Ricans and their Constitution and history and returns what they have unjustly taken. She continued to say "Spain unjustly deprived us of our citizenship once in 1898 and now they are unjustly depriving us again of a right to reclaim what was taken…sham on you Spain! you cannot hold any moral high ground on the world stage until you do the right thing by your Constitution and afford us the same treatment as the Sephardim, until then, my call for all people to boycott Spain will continue until the discrimination stops.
The world is watching Spanish Justice.
