SOURCE BUSINESS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- SpikeSource, an open source IT services company, announced today the availability of free software for the open source community. The Spike Asset Manager (SAM) and Spike PHPCoverage tools help software developers and enterprise IT professionals integrate, test and manage their open source assets. SAM is an open source, cross-platform framework for identifying and reporting locally installed open source components. Spike PHPCoverage is an application that provides code coverage analysis for the testing of software developed using the PHP programming language. SAM and Spike PHPCoverage are active open source projects on SourceForge.net. Spike Asset Manager SAM, which helps manage existing open source assets, includes a driver file that probes for components commonly found in a LAMP/LAMJ stack (Apache, MySQL, PHP, Tomcat, etc). SAM can find multiple versions that are installed in a local disk, query an RPM database or operating systems repository, and listen to standard ports and indicate which components are running. It operates as a standalone tool and does not send any information to SpikeSource. SAM can be extended by writing extension plug-ins or by creating additional directives for the driver file. SAM currently looks for 88 components, including Apache httpd, Axis, Commons-Logging, Hibernate, Java, Jetspeed, JBoss, log4j, MySQL, OpenLDAP, OpenSSL, Perl, PHP, Python, Spring, Struts and Tomcat. SAM is available at www.spikesource.com/projects/sam/ Spike PHPCoverage The PHP language has rapidly gained popularity for development of interactive websites, and now enjoys a strong developer following. However, to date there has not been a tool that reports on PHP code coverage. SpikeSource has developed Spike PHPCoverage, a code coverage analysis utility that shows developers how much of their PHP code is being executed by a test suite. SpikeSource has released Spike PHPCoverage as an open source project so the community can use it and extend it to meet their needs. Spike PHPCoverage is available at www.spikesource.com/projects/phpcoverage/.
