Squid Systems Provides HEVC Decoder for Mobile Devices Efficient H.265 HEVC Software Solutions for Popular Processor Platforms
BARCELONA, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Mobile World Congress -- Squid Systems today announced availability of its highly efficient HEVC decoder software for mobile devices. The Squid decoder software operates on popular mobile processors based on ARM Limited designs and on processors made by Intel Corporation, and includes openCL optimization to exploit the processing power of popular GPUs available on mobile processors.
"HEVC is vital for the future of mobile devices and networks," said Dr. Renga Sundararajan, Squid Systems V.P. of Products and Marketing. "Consumers demand access to their favorite video content anywhere and anytime, at ever higher screen resolutions, and with improved network performance. Squid HEVC can make a vital contribution, reducing video bit-rates by 50%, enabling HD video at 720p and 1080p resolutions over cellular airwaves," he added.
Squid HEVC solutions are highly optimized for mobile processors. Squid's decoder provides high quality jitter-free 720p and 1080p HD resolutions on ARM A9 quad-core and A15 dual-core processors and on Atom dual-core processors from Intel. The Squid solution can also decode 4K ultra-HD resolution on desktop systems using Intel's I7 quad-core processors.
Squid has worked with major firms to demonstrate interoperability of its decoders at industry events in 2013. According to Sundararajan, "To achieve quick industry adoption HEVC encoders and decoders must interoperate seamlessly from sub-HD to full-HD resolution on current and future mobile devices. Our partner demonstrations should give customers confidence that the Squid decoder is robust and ready for deployment." Squid will soon announce the availability of a suite of HEVC encode solutions targeted at broadcast & streaming industry, surveillance industry and consumer devices.
Squid Systems, Inc. was incorporated in 2006 to provide Intellectual Property for high quality and high efficiency Video Codec and Image Processing Hardware and Software solutions to semiconductor and system companies.
