Stamford Post Office To Be Sold
Stamford will house the new Lower Fairfield Art Center
GREENWICH Conn., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lower Fairfield Art Center, Inc., a newly founded nonprofit art organization, has signed the purchase agreement to purchase the Stamford Post Office at 421 Atlantic Street, for an undisclosed price.
"We know this is a great use for this historic structure," said Debra Sherwood , the Executive Director and founder. "The layout of the building's 42,600 square feet is very suitable to convert from an architecturally significant Neo Classical icon for the reuse as an Art Center."
The Art Center or LFAC will have ample exhibition space for a wide range of interests, including contemporary and self taught, or outsider art. We intend to show the field of design as art, including architecture, graphics, and crafts (ceramics, glass, fibers and jewelry). There will be a program for Connecticut artist's exhibition opportunities.
"Our goal will be to ignite and foster a life-long relationship of learning, social empowerment, personal inquiry while inspiring a collective pride with dynamic connections across all cultures in our community," said Sherwood.
Additionally, LFAC will house a comprehensive art education setting for children and adults. In addition to the fine art courses shall be craft classes, such as cold glass, ceramics, fibers, jewelry. There will be an auditorium for artist lectures performance art and community events. LFAC is a venue that explores the notion of "art"; it will be inclusive, innovating and engaging. Also on the premises will be a cafe/restaurant and gift shop.
"According to the American Association of Museums, in a typical year American museums attract more than 850 million visits, which is more than the number of people who attend all major league sporting events and theme parks combined!"
