Starfish USA's Gala Helps Turn The Tide On AIDS The Starfish Greathearts Foundation's fourth annual NYC Gala and Art Auction, held last week, raised over $60,000 for children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
NEW YORK, March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Proceeds from the Gala will go directly to one of the 42 Starfish-supported community-based organizations across South Africa to provide warm meals, food parcels, blankets, school uniforms, stationery, daycare, clinics, first aid kits, afterschool activities and counseling to meet the basic needs of children in their own communities.
The Gala, which was sponsored by Investec, celebrated South Africa's creative culture, showcasing renowned artists such as Jeff Koons, James Delaney, Deborah Bell, Lauren Kaplan and Hugo McCloud, who donated their artwork to support Starfish.
Almost 170 people attended the event at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City, including South African Consul General, George Monyemangene.
One lucky guest won a magical trip to South Africa, with return flights for two sponsored by KLM, luxury accommodations at Tanda Tula Safari Lodge and Ten Bompas Hotel in Johannesburg, and the opportunity to visit one of the local community-based organizations that Starfish supports to care for AIDS orphans.
