Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Death of Huguette Oligny
OTTAWA, May 10, 2013 /CNW/ - It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of actor Huguette Oligny. Her talent and passion impressed Canadian and international audiences for over six decades.
Born in 1922 in Montréal, Huguette Oligny began her career in theatre in the early 1940s and quickly gained attention for her portrayals of classical roles. From New York, Chicago, Paris and Brussels to Hollywood, Mrs. Oligny won our hearts through her work in theatre, television, and feature films throughout her illustrious career.
In 1997, she was promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada after being appointed Officer in 1984. She was made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec in 1999.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Huguette Oligny.
