Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of World Poetry Day
OTTAWA, March 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Today I am pleased to celebrate World Poetry Day. This day is an opportunity for Canadians of all ages and backgrounds to read works by Canadian poets and discover a part of our rich cultural heritage.
Our Government understands that poetry and other forms of literary creation hold a special place in the hearts of Canadians. Poetry is an integral part of our culture, alongside other arts such as theatre, dance, and music. It has the power to express our thoughts, dreams, and experiences and allows us to learn about our history and heritage.
I encourage all Canadians to take an active part in celebrating this special day dedicated to creative expression. I would also like to commend all of our poets on their contributions to Canada's literary landscape.
