Mr. Brown stated, "Stater Bros. is so proud to have received this
historic photo. Our North Redlands Stater Bros. Supermarket has been
serving our 'valued' Redlands customers for over 50 years from the same
location, longer than any other supermarket in Redlands."
Stater Bros. North Redlands Supermarket opened in 1956 on the site of
the former Hotel Casa Loma, a luxury hotel and tourist attraction from 1895
to 1939. The current North Redlands Stater Bros. Supermarket was rebuilt on
the same site in 1966 and remodeled in 1999.
Stater Bros. has deep roots in the City of Redlands. The Stater
brothers, including Stater Bros.' founders Cleo, Leo and Lavoy Stater,
attended Redlands Schools. One of the very first Stater Bros. Markets
opened on Olive Avenue in Redlands in 1937, and another Stater Bros. Market
opened in 1951 on West Redlands Boulevard. Both of these locations were
eventually closed to make room for newer and more modern Stater Bros.
locations. In addition to the North Redlands Supermarket, Stater Bros.
operates two additional Full Service Supermarkets in Redlands: at the
corner of Lugonia and Wabash Avenues (open since 1980) and at the corner of
Alabama Street and Barton Road (open since 1988).
Stater Bros. was founded in 1936 in Yucaipa, California, and has grown
steadily through the years to become the largest privately owned
Supermarket Chain in California and the largest private employer in both
San Bernardino County and Riverside County, with annual sales in 2005 of
$3.4 billion. Stater Bros. also owns and operates Heartland Farms, provider
of Knudsen Dairy products to Southern California. The Company currently
operates 162 Supermarkets, and there are over 17,000 members of the Stater
Bros. "Family" of Employees.
