Statewide AFSCME Union Endorses Nomination of Bob Casey, Jr. for Governor
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's largest AFL-CIO
union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees
(AFSCME) Council 13 has endorsed Bob Casey, Jr. as the Democratic Party's
nominee in next year's gubernatorial elections, said AFSCME state leader,
Edward J. Keller.
Council 13 AFSCME, of which Keller is Executive Director, represents
approximately 75,000 public employees and health care workers statewide.
Keller said AFSCME's endorsement of Casey was authorized by a unanimous
vote of the union's 522 delegates to its convention, May 19-20, 2001, in
Hershey. AFSCME represents 360 Local Unions who work for the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, and counties, cities, townships, boroughs, school districts and
private, non-profit health care facilities.
"Bob Casey, Jr., as did his father, has strong allegiances to working men
and women and their families, and a stellar record of promoting their best
interests," Keller said.
