Stripping Away Wounds By Stripping Down
Kellie Mae Uses Her Photography To Heal Women's Self-Image
PORTLAND, Ore., April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Portland-based boudoir photographer Kellie Mae is on a mission to heal women through her camera. By stripping down to their intimates, Kellie Mae's mission is to strip away women's wounds and hurts while promoting positive self-esteem and saving marriages.
"My vision behind Kellie Mae Photography was to empower women," said Kellie Mae, who has been a professional photographer for 7 years. "There's so many women like myself who don't see beauty, and just see scars and hurt. It's about giving women empowerment and ownership to like who they are and the way that they look just as they are."
According to a study done in 2011 by the Dove Campaign For Real Beauty, 96% of women do not consider themselves beautiful, and Kellie Mae is joining this movement to change how women view their beauty through her photography. (SOURCE: http://www.dove.us/Social-Mission/campaign-for-real-beauty.aspx)
Saturday, April 13, 2013, Kellie Mae is hosting a girls night out event in the Portland area partnering up with Breast Friends, an Oregon-based charity helping women cope with the diagnosis of breast cancer. The event will be a powerful night for women of all ages to learn from special guest speakers such as Jackie Schwinn, of Arbonne, and other various speakers who are speaking on the topic of women's health and wellness. In addition to the dessert reception and guest speakers, the event will premiere the new film showcasing the heart and soul behind Kellie Mae's vision to heal women's self-images through her boudoir photography. Admission is free for the event at 7000 SE Riverside Dr., Vancouver, WA. Dress code is cocktail attire. Raffle prizes will be availble including the opportunity for one woman to win a free boudoir session with Kellie Mae. Women are encouraged to rally their girlfriends and enjoy a night of pampering at the event.
In addition to how Kellie Mae has already used her specialty in boudoir photography to heal women's self-esteem, she has also used her photography to save client's marriages.
"I've had clients come to me not knowing what else to do to help their marriage," said Kellie Mae. "Then after their boudoir session, they tell me how the photos have helped reignite their passion in their marriage. I've had husband's call me up and tell me that their wive's boudoir album was the best gift they've ever gotten, and that their marriage is better than it's ever been."
Marie Garcia, who recently had her own boudoir session done with Kellie Mae, chose to do the session not just for herself, but for her husband.
"I wanted to give him something different and sexy rather than always being seen as a mom in sweatpants," Garcia said. "I wanted to show him that I could do something glammed up and pretty for him."
While boudoir photography is a niche that can be known for inappropriate sexualized images and outfits, Kellie Mae insists on creating tasteful artwork that focuses more on a woman's beauty, with the added benefit of helping them feel sexy. In a society full of body size comparisons all over the media, Kellie Mae uses her boudoir photography for the purpose of helping women see how truly beautiful they are just as they are, all ages, all sizes.
"Boudoir is about finding that confidence that every woman has buried deep inside, and sometimes they just need permission to simply be beautiful."
