Subaru Canada: A Podium Finish at Rocky Mountain Rally; Seven Subaru Vehicles in the Top Ten
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) maintains its second-place standings towards the manufacturer's championship after the penultimate event in the Canadian Rally Championship season, the Rocky Mountain Rally. The fifth event of the season was held November 1-2 of this past weekend.
Having moved from Alberta to British Columbia, the Rocky Mountain Rally took place on all new roads in its new location - Invermere, British Columbia - with all teams coming into the event on equal footing in terms of local knowledge and experience. For Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and co-driver Rob Fagg, an unforeseen patch of black ice on the second stage ended the rally early. It was the first time in over 11 years that Richard has not been able to finish a rally due to a crash.
"We still have a chance at the manufacturer's championship if a Subaru wins at the next event," said Richard. "We're going to put our best foot forward to make that happen."
Despite Subaru Rally Team Canada's personal setback, Richard persevered in gaining valuable manufacturer points for Subaru by working with top-ranked privateer driver Max Riddle. With Richard's advice and his team's assistance, Riddle and co-driver Darren Garrod pushed hard and finished the event in third place, securing a spot for Subaru on the podium.
The final event of the Canadian Rally Championship, Rally of the Tall Pines, takes place November 29-30, in Bancroft, Ontario. After a bad crash during his first attempt and an absence last year, Riddle is looking forward to ending this year's season on a high note.
"I'm looking at Tall Pines as my redemption rally," stated Riddle. "I'm going there with one goal in mind. That's to get another podium position."
