Sukamto Sia Announces Ten Years of Volunteer Work With American Cancer Society Sukamto Sia has been coordinating cancer walks and assisting with fundraising for the American Cancer Society.

NEW YORK, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Sukamto Sia is proud to announce ten years of involvement with the American Cancer Society. Sukamto Sia enjoys volunteering his time to the American Cancer Society, helping them with fundraising efforts, including many of the annual cancer-related fundraising walks.

Sukamto Sia first came to be involved with the American Cancer Society as a young architect in New York shortly after he received his Masters degree. "Volunteering with the American Cancer Society is a very fulfilling activity," Sukamto Sia reflected. "I particularly enjoy getting to visit with patients in the hospital. We enjoy each other's company and the patients tell me stories about their lives. It's really powerful to know that I can brighten someone's day just by listening."

Sukamto Sia's biggest accomplishment while working with the American Cancer Society has been his work coordinating Manhattan-based Relay for Life events. The Relay for Life is a team-based overnight fundraising walk. Relay for Life events often draw large crowds and Sukamto Sia has worked hard to make these events as enjoyable and organized as possible. The Relay for Life is also one of the American Cancer Society's biggest fundraisers, so it is imperative that it runs smoothly. In the run up to the event, Sukamto Sia gets space permits, organizes information packets, and fields phone calls with questions.

Besides fundraising walks, Sukamto Sia has spent a lot of time in the American Cancer Society's offices stuffing envelopes and collating newsletters. "I may not have a passion for stuff envelopes," observes Sukamto Sia, "but I believe in the cause and I believe in giving my time. If stuffing envelopes is what the American Cancer Society needs from me, I will be there to do it."

This year Sukamto Sia may be celebrating ten years with the American Cancer Society, but he has no plans of stopping here. Sukamto Sia plans to continue working with the American Cancer Society for as long as he is able. "I hope to be able to stop working with the American Cancer Society because we've found a cure. Until then, I'll keep volunteering," says Sukamto Sia. Certainly that is how the American Cancer Society hopes Sukamto Sia's tale of devotion ends, as well.

About: Sukamto Sia is an architect and philanthropist from New York City.
