NEWPORT, Wales, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Surface Technology Systems plc
(STS) (LSE: SRTS), a leader in plasma process technologies required in the
manufacturing and packaging of advanced electronic devices, today announced
that, in recent weeks, it has received multiple orders worth over 1 million
pounds Sterling for its cluster tools from a leading supplier of components
 for wireless communications.
Over the past six years, STS has installed a number of cluster tools at
the customer's production facility in North America. These tools have been
supplied with inductively couple plasma (ICP) sources for etching via holes
through GaAs wafers. These recent orders include two cluster tools and
additional process chambers for their existing equipment. One of these
clusters will be a new VPX cluster based on Brooks' MX400 robotic wafer
handler, which can accommodate up to three individual process modules with
STS' latest generation of PLC-based control.
STS believes these repeat orders are due to their advanced processing
performance and the flexibility of the tool for easy transition to larger
wafer sizes when required. STS provides a strong service support
infrastructure in the US, controlled locally from its West Coast office in
Redwood City, California, a factor the Company recognises is paramount for
 production customers.
John Saunders, CEO of STS, added: "We are delighted that STS has
maintained and developed a great relationship with such a key production
customer. The latest orders are confirmation that our new range of processing
platforms continue to gain traction in the market and offers customers
significant and valuable advantages in the production environment."
