Sybase 365 President John Sims Re-Elected To Board Of Directors For CTIA-the Wireless Association®
Industry Veteran Considers Collaboration and World-Class Interoperability Among Operators Critical to All-IP Network Transformation; Sees Mobile, "Big Data" and Cloud as the Key Inflection Point for Operators and Businesses
SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sybase 365, the mobile services arm of SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) and global leader in mobile interconnection services and mobile commerce solutions, today announced that its president, John Sims, has been re-elected to the Board of Directors of CTIA-The Wireless Association®. CTIA is the international organization that represents the wireless telecommunications industry, including wireless carriers and their suppliers and providers and manufacturers of wireless data services and products. The announcement was made at MobileCON™ 2012, being held October 9–11 in San Diego, Calif.
As a re-elected board member, Sims will continue to help set CTIA's strategic direction with his deep expertise in building strong partner ecosystems among operators and delivering world-class interoperability across geographies spanning the globe.
"It is an honor to have been re-elected to the CTIA board. In our role as a custodian of the ecosystem that delivers messaging and data services between operators, Sybase 365 is required to build and maintain an expansive, flourishing network of operator partners," said Sims. "We reach over 900 mobile network operators and 5.5 billion subscribers globally, so a high amount of collaboration is required as we work together to innovate around 4G/LTE. By achieving a more rapid and ubiquitous all-IP network footprint our operator partners will be in a position to offer very compelling new services that will capture the imagination of their subscribers."
With mobile internet usage surpassing desktop internet usage in May 20121 and the number of mobile app downloads expected to reach 44 billion by 20162, operators are working to acquire more spectrum and are moving toward highly flexible, secure all-IP networks to accommodate "big data" demand. The combination of mobile, big data and cloud services is creating an inflection point for operators and the business world.
"The number of 'things' connected to the Internet already exceeds the number of people on earth and it is estimated to reach 50 billion by 2020, significantly increasing data consumption," continued Sims. "Operators and businesses that embrace mobile, big data and cloud have the opportunity to transform their business and better service their employees and customers. This will ultimately drive new revenue streams and industry leadership."
"I am pleased John was re-elected to serve on the board of directors," said Steve Largent, president and CEO, CTIA-The Wireless Association. "The U.S. wireless industry is focused on a number of key policy issues, from spectrum to cybersecurity to taxes and fees. John's expertise and in-depth knowledge of the complex wireless industry will be important as we continue to advocate on behalf of our consumers and the industry before all levels of government."
