synthesis - We Must Spend Less on Education - Necessity and Invention
SEATTLE, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The following blog post was published July 25, 2009, by Shafeen Charania, author of the synthesis blog, winner of the 2008 Weblog award for best new blog, and Time.com's 25 best blogs of 2009.
America spends more per student on education than almost any other country in the world, despite this, we are graduating students who are not only below "par" globally, but also below par nationally. Graduates going on to college or university or entering the workforce require remediation to bring them up to a base level of ability.
Throwing more money at the problem is the wrong answer - we've done if for decades with exactly the opposite result - it's time to change the rules and spend less to get more.
