Take Winter by Storm
93 fresh adventures, sporty activities, and cozy ways to heat up
CHICAGO, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Winter is upon us. Before you make your annual migration from the outdoors to the living room sofa, consider the glories that prevail in the frigid air. From great places to sled and cross-country ski to more offbeat activities like mushing and ice-boating--not to mention the pleasures of coming inside to homemade hot chocolate and satisfying comfort foods--winter in Chicago has something for everyone.
The December issue of Chicago magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, gives the frost-averse 93 ideas to get out of the indoor rut. The magazine also rounds up the best new winter coats and boots.
"The winter in Chicago can be tough, but we've brought out the antifreeze and found the best ways to help you make the most of the season," says Richard Babcock, the editor of Chicago. "If you're more adventurous, this might be your year to try speed skating or ice-boating. Or your preference might be relaxing with a hot and frothy cocktail. Either way, you'll find winter's best in this month's issue."
The December issue also features the Holiday Gift Guide. Whether your friends and family made the naughty or nice list, the guide provides 87 gift ideas, including 40 under $50.
Elsewhere in the December issue of Chicago:
- Art: With a new book out and a seemingly endless reservoir of ideas, the artist and screen printer Jay Ryan draws worldwide acclaim from his Skokie studio.
- Ice Folly: Chicago's writer-at-large, Bryan Smith, takes up competitive figure skating in middle age and risks grave embarrassment by admitting it in print.
Chicago editor Richard Babcock, managing editor Shane Tritsch, and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the December issue. Contact Kate Mersman at 312-222-3165 to schedule an interview.
