TD Charitable Foundation to Offer $2 Million in Grants to Support Housing Stabilization Efforts

CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank and TD Banknorth, announced that it will make available $2 million in grants to support affordable housing initiatives from Maine to Florida, through its 2009 "Housing for Everyone" grant competition.

The Foundation will award 56 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, to eligible housing non-profits that submit compelling proposals for innovative projects that will stabilize the housing environment in the communities where TD Bank and TD Banknorth do business.

"Since 2006, our annual 'Housing for Everyone' grant competition has supported fiscally-responsible organizations that make a meaningful difference in the affordable housing landscape of their community. Now more than ever, there's a need to help families stay in their homes, and protect our neighborhoods from the effects of foreclosure and abandonment," said Elizabeth K. Warn, President of the TD Charitable Foundation and Executive Vice President of Community Development for TD Banknorth. "Through this year's 'Housing for Everyone' focus on housing stabilization, we're pleased to do just that."

Organizations that wish to enter the 2009 grant competition must have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status; must develop or maintain affordable housing, or provide housing-related programs and services to low- and moderate-income individuals or families; and serve the communities where TD Bank and TD Banknorth do business. Applicant organizations must also demonstrate fiscal responsibility and the impact they have made on affordable housing efforts in their communities.

Proposals will only be accepted online, at www.TDBanknorth.com or www.TDBank.com, and must be submitted by September 4, 2009, by 4 p.m. Notification of awards will be made in late October 2009.

Over the past years of the "Housing for Everyone" competition, the Foundation has invested a total of $5 million to help create or maintain more than 3,000 affordable housing units.
