Mack to Serve as Chair of Western Conference Teamster Pension Trust

WASHINGTON, May 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After a 43-year career as one of the top leaders in the Teamsters Union, Western Region International Vice President Chuck Mack will step down from all of his positions to become the co-chair of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust at the end of May.

His new role as co-chair of the pension trust requires him to resign his position as Port Division Director, which he has held since 2003, as well as retire from his longtime posts as International Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 70 and President of Joint Council 7.

"Chuck Mack has been an outstanding leader in our union for nearly five decades," said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. "The positive impact on the lives of the members he has served over his career is immeasurable, and I personally will miss his council as both a dedicated trade unionist and a friend. I wish him the best of luck in his new position and I am confident he will serve the pension trust with the same commitment to excellence he has demonstrated his entire career."

Mack joined Teamsters Local 70 in Oakland, California in 1962, loading and driving a truck for a living. He held his first elected office in 1966 as a business agent at Local 70. This launched a long career of service to the members during which he was elected Secretary-Treasurer of Local 70 in 1972, President of Joint Council 7 in 1982 and Western Region Vice President in 1998 on the Hoffa ticket -- all positions he still holds today.

Despite all his success as a union official, Mack has always felt the true measure of his success as trade unionist is reflected in his service to the members.

"Our members have better health care coverage than most CEOs and 90 percent of the workers in this country," Mack said. "I'm proud of that."

Mack has served as a trustee of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust since 1981 and understands the challenges he will face as co-chair in this difficult economy.

"The Western Conference Fund like so many other plans has its challenges," Mack said. "We will watch it closely to protect the interests of our members and their families."
