Teen Sports Journalist Named as RadioShack's 2003 Xtreme(SM) Soccer Fan; Winner Receives Ultimate Fan's Dream - Trip to the MLS Cup 2003(TM) Game

Nov 20, 2003, 00:00 ET from RadioShack Corporation

FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Sean Donahue of Franklin,
Mass., is already envied by soccer fans who either know -- or know of -- the
15-year-old soccer fanatic. Not only does he have access to MLS soccer
players because of his soccer-oriented newspaper column, radio commentary and
Web sites, he has a collection of soccer memorabilia that would make any boy
proud. Now fans have even more reason to be jealous of Donahue: RadioShack
Corporation (NYSE: RSH) has awarded him the title of the 2003 RadioShack
 Xtreme(SM) Soccer Fan.
The recently concluded RadioShack Xtreme Soccer Fan Contest was a
nationwide search for stories, descriptions, pictures or video accounts of the
most devoted and passionate soccer fans in the country. As the winner,
Donahue receives a trip for four to the MLS Cup 2003 in Los Angeles,
November 23, where he will take part in pre-game festivities as a guest of MLS
promotional sponsor, RadioShack. RadioShack is also the title sponsor of the
2003 MLS Cup Halftime featuring Grammy- and MTV Award-winning singer-
songwriter Michelle Branch and RadioShack celebrity spokesperson Daisy
 Fuentes.
Donahue first began playing soccer at age five, but it was not until he
attended his first MLS game that his fever for the sport really intensified.
"In 1997, I attended my first MLS game and was struck by the fast pace and
excitement of the sport," recalls Donahue. "Ever since, I have either gone to
the stadium, watched on television or listened on the radio for every New
England Revolution game. I am incredibly honored to be named the winner of
the Xtreme Fan Contest, and I am thrilled to be attending the MLS Cup."
Donahue's love of soccer extends far beyond the posters, books and soccer
trading cards that cover his room. The teenager runs two Web sites, one
dedicated to the New England Revolution and one on MLS news overall, as well
as a soccer message board. He shares his love of soccer through his column in
the local Fall River (Mass.) Sports Journal and regular commentary on WSAR-AM
radio. When he is not scoring on the airwaves, Donahue somehow finds time to
hone his skills for his freshman high school soccer team or unwinds with MLS
 video games.
"We received applications from passionate soccer fans across the country,
ranging from young children playing soccer with their parents, fans who paint
their faces and bodies when they attend games, and people who religiously
attend every game of their favorite team," said Jim McDonald, senior vice
president, chief brand officer for RadioShack. "However, Sean truly
exemplifies what it is to be an Xtreme Fan. Not only has he reverently
watched and participated in the sport for most of his life, but at a young age
he has the unique opportunity to interview players and share his views on
soccer through the media. He is truly a special fan and a great choice as our
 first Xtreme Soccer Fan winner."
Runner-up winners, who will receive tickets for four to a future MLS game
along with a RadioShack/MLS gift pack and autographed poster, include: Arturo
Baez from San Diego, Calif., Joshua Davies from Somerset, Mass., Philip
Galounis from New Lenox, Ill., Daniel Gaske from Oak Hill, Va., Brook Miller
from Strongsville, Ohio, Shannon Miller from Lee's Summit, Mo., Hayden Senter
from Los Gatos, Calif., Richie Torres from Mamaroneck, N.Y. and Santa
 Villarreal from Dallas, Texas.
RadioShack, a MLS promotional sponsor and the "Official Consumer
Electronics Store" of MLS, is also the presenting sponsor of MLS Soccer
Saturday on ABC and ESPN2 as well as the season-ending Best XI awards.
