HOUSTON, Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Texas Children's Health Plan—The Center for Children and Women has been selected for the Pregnancy Medical Home Pilot program. The program will provide maternity care management to women who receive medical care through Medicaid. Its goal is to reduce poor birth outcomes such as premature birth and low birth weight. The pilot program in Harris County, Texas was created through the Texas House Bill 1605, authored by Texas State Representative Sarah Davis and signed by Governor Rick Perry last year.
"We are very proud to have been selected for the pilot program. We look forward to working with Health and Human Service Commission to improve the outcomes of pregnancy for women in the Medicaid program," stated Dr. Lisa Hollier, medical director of obstetrics at The Center for Children and Women.
Facilitated by Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), The Center for Children and Women had to meet specific criteria including having obstetricians, primary care providers, advanced practice nurses and social workers on staff at the facility to qualify.
