The Addition of Five New Board Members Sets to Broaden the National Society of Hispanic MBAs' Vision and Mission

 

IRVING, Texas, June 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) has added five new members to its robust Board of Directors, who further ensure the continued momentum the organization has displayed during its 20 years as a successful non-profit.

The newest members comprise individuals with diverse backgrounds in corporate and private enterprise around the country:

  • Ramiro J Atristain-Carrion, National Director; Risk Management; Adjunct Professor, DePaul University
  • Rosanna Durruthy, National Director; founder, chief talent strategist of AEQUUS Group, LLC
  • Charles P Garcia, National Director; senior managing director, Hispanic Capital Markets Group
  • Stuart R Jara, National Director; vice-president & general manager, Tonnage Business Americas
  • Nicolas A Medina, National Director; Global Pricing, Speedpass manager for ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Company.

The general purpose of the National Board of Directors as a whole is to provide general governance of NSHMBA's affairs and provide direction of a quality and nature that optimize the development, growth and performance of the organization at the local, regional and national levels. The National Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that strategies and policies that are developed and implemented will enable the organization to achieve its mission and goals, and for monitoring and evaluating the organization's implementation of those strategies and policies. It is the duty of the Board of Directors to provide a realistic vision for the future of NSHMBA, and to promote the creation of strategies and policies that lead to attainment of that vision.

Ramiro Atristain-Carrion is a finance professional with extensive experience in risk management, corporate finance and investment management. He is vice president of Risk Management at Harris Bank, part of the BMO Financial Group, where he also was a vice president of Corporate Finance. Previously, Atristain-Carrion was a financial analyst for the Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Ltd. (now Mizuho Bank Ltd.) and later, senior vice president of Asset Management with Capri Capital.

He has served as Board Chairman of the International Latino Cultural Center in Chicago and Trustee for the Board of Grant Hospital. Currently, he serves in the board of Asociacion Lideres in Washington DC, the board of Chicago Lower Extremity Symposium Foundation and the Advisory Board of the Brennan School of Business, in River Forest, IL.

Atristain-Carrion is Adjunct Professor at DePaul University in Chicago, Visiting Professor at the Brennan School of Business at Dominican University, and visiting lecturer at Universidad de Alicante in Spain. He is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals, the National Association for Business Economics, the American Society of Association Executives, and in the past he has served in the Board of the Latino Institute, The Support Center of Chicago as well as other civic organizations.

Mr. Atristain-Carrion, is an honorary member of the Academy of Management, and an Honorary Professional inductee to the business fraternity Sigma Iota Epsilon. He is a recipient of the 1999 Graduate of the Decade Award from Dominican University, a recipient of the 2008 Volunteer of the year Harris Award and the Illinois Secretary of State Volunteer Recognition. Atristain-Carrion is also a past NSHMBA Brillante Award winner, founder of the Corporate Advisory Board and Chairman Emeritus.

He was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and he is fluent in Spanish and Italian and conversant in Japanese.

Rosanna Durruthy is a leadership coach and organizational consultant. Her extensive work in talent acceleration supports the successful advancement of women and people of color into leadership positions. Durruthy attended Harvard College, where she majored in government. She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, CareerJournal.com and DiversityInc, and was profiled in Latina Style.

A native New Yorker born to Cuban and Puerto Rican parents, Hispanic and Hispanic Business magazines have named her one of the country's leading Hispanic women.

Charles P Garcia is Managing Director, Cabrera Capital Markets, where he leads an investment banking group focused on the Global Hispanic Market, in the media, healthcare, real estate, energy, food and beverage, consumer products and project finance sectors in the U.S. and Latin America. In 2006, he was named to the Board of Directors of Winn Dixie Stores, a Fortune 500 company; former President Bush appointed him to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors in 2005, which oversees all operations at the military academy, and where he now serves as the Chairman of the Board; in 2001, then Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed him to serve two terms on the seven-member State Board of Education, responsible for all public education in Florida, and an annual budget of $15 billion.

Garcia graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, achieving the rank of Deputy Wing Commander. He is a distinguished graduate of the skydiving program and the Army Reconnaissance Commando School, and in 1987 he received a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, and a law degree from Columbia Law School in 1994, where he published an article in the Columbia Law Review that was cited extensively by the Florida Supreme Court in a landmark Fourth Amendment case.

Stuart R Jara moved from the U.S. to Venezuela at the age of nine and completed his elementary and high school educations at an international school, which catered to the children of expats and diplomats and were pivotal foundational experiences that have since touched all areas of Jara's career.

Currently as the president of Taylor-Wharton, Jara is responsible for a global business with six facilities that generate $250 million in global sales. Prior to this role, Jara was vice president of The Linde Group with P&L responsibility of a $1.2 billion business throughout the Americas. Jara has repeatedly proven his ability to quickly develop in new areas while making a strong, positive impact.

Additionally, his accomplishments extend beyond his career. As chairperson for Linde's United Way Campaign, Jara spearheaded a new initiative to sponsor the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity home within new geography that Linde expands. The first home built in Toledo was a huge success and produced the additional unexpected benefit of being a highly successful team-building exercise for Linde employees.

Jara began his career in 1991 at Westinghouse Electric Corp where he worked as a sales engineer for several years. Besides an M.B.A., Jara has earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees from Lehigh University in Mechanical Engineering and International Relations.

Nicolas A Medina is a native of Nicaragua who holds bachelor's degrees in Economics and International Relations from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a Master's of Business in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Medina is the President of the Global Organization for the Advancement of Latinos (GOAL), an ExxonMobil group designed to facilitate the business, professional growth and advancement of Hispanics throughout ExxonMobil. He is a frequent speaker at industry and trade conventions.

In his spare time, Medina serves on the boards of a number of organizations, including the Hispanic 360 Retail Summit by Nielsen, and chairs the Corporate Advisory Board for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Caribbean Institute at Florida International University and this year became a member of the Board of Directors for Bread for the City in Washington, D.C.
