No Rain Is Planned - But the Theme is Water
The Beverly Hills Art Show, Affaire In The Gardens, which features 250 fine artists from around the country, returns to Beverly Gardens Park on October 17th and 18th. Four historic garden blocks, from Rodeo to Rexford Drive, will be filled with 250 artists and their original art, from twenty-foot tall metal sculptures to miniscule ceramic perfume bottles to some of the most esteemed yet affordable paintings found in an outdoor show, personally represented by the artists. In addition, this free, drop-in event always includes an outdoor dining quarter, a wine garden, live jazz, classical and contemporary music, many art demonstrations, and craft-making for children. A number of local area restaurants provide the food concessions featuring fine cuisine and Angel City Microbrewery will provide their local brews.
Live demonstrations feature artists taking on the humble subject of water. Artists show off their abilities to represent water, which like the sky can be beautiful but difficult to render. The art show talent pool pays tribute to this increasingly rare and precious substance in our dry Southern California landscape, even in the lush oasis of Beverly Hills.
This free show has been taking place in Beverly Hills for 36 years. 40,000 art aficionados are expected to attend. The convivial atmosphere, fine art bargains, and long, elegant park expanses make this a popular event, attracting a wide range of artists and a diverse clientele. The patrons include local Beverly "Hillites," festival lovers in general, Los Angeles area art dealers, art collectors from throughout Southern California, and even the occasional celebrity; the latter always sends a quiet buzz through all four blocks of the show.
Cirque du Soleil's street team, WhoozaKooza, will be making an appearance early Sunday afternoon, strolling through the crowds, entertaining the public and conducting a "silly photo" contest. Cirque du Soleil tickets will be awarded for the craziest photos. Visit www.whoozakooza.com for more information on WhoozaKooza and the Cirque.
The Affaire In The Gardens Art Show, produced by the City of Beverly Hills, is sponsored by Mark Wollman of Hilton and Hyland Real Estate, Simply Orange, the Beverly Hills Courier, Beverly Hills Design and Life, and the Los Angeles Children's Hospital.
