The Formation of the East Turkistan Government in Exile

Sep 13, 2004, 01:00 ET from East Turkistan National Freedom Center

    WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifty-five years ago last month, a
plane carrying the leaders of the Republic of East Turkistan crashed under
suspicious circumstances. When the news reached Beijing, Mao Zedong sent in
the Communist military, and the occupation of East Turkistan began.
In the intervening years, the Communists have razed mosques, shot
political prisoners, ignored the consequences of open-air nuclear testing,
attempted to destroy the Uyghur culture through "Sinicization," and spread
venomous lies about the Uyghur people, including false and slanderous claims
that Uyghurs are supporters of Al Qaeda.
East Turkistan was an independent nation for two millennia, before
Imperial, and then Communist China occupied it. Now, East Turkistan has found
 its voice again.
On September 14, 2004, from 2 PM to 4 PM in Capitol Hill Room HC-6, Anwar
Yusuf Turani, President of the East Turkistan National Freedom Center, will
announce the formation of the East Turkistan Government in Exile, and take
questions from the media. Then, from 5 PM to 9 PM in the Area 5 (between the
north of Reflection Pool and the east of Vietnam Veterans Memorial), a rally
will be held to celebrate the formation of the East Turkistan Government in
Exile. This event includes live Uyghur music, songs, and dance performed by
the East Turkistanis led by Sultan Mahmut, a well-known Uyghur musician and
 singer in East Turkistan.
Note: The election of East Turkistan Government in Exile will be held on
September 13, 2004, from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM in George Mason Regional Library
located at 7001 Little River Turn Pike, Annandale, VA.
