SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading shopper marketing agency, The Mars Agency, announces it will hold its third annual Global Citizenship Day on Friday, August 14th, dedicating 2,000 hours of service to local communities throughout North America. Continuing to build upon the success of previous years, The Mars Agency's Detroit Office will once again volunteer with Summer in the City (SITC) and Gleaners Community Food Bank.

"Our Global Citizenship Day has quickly become one of our agency's favorite activities," commented Rob Rivenburgh, COO, The Mars Agency. "We have developed great relationships with both Summer in the City and Gleaners, allowing us to enhance our involvement with these wonderful organizations year-over-year and fulfill a key component of our company's mission to create growth for our local communities."

This year, the Detroit office will divide into two teams. One team will volunteer in support of Gleaners' Hunger Free Summer campaign, created to ensure that no child goes hungry this summer. The other volunteer team will work in support of SITC's Finale Friday at the Crowell Recreation Center, where employees will assist with youth enrichment programs for SITC's Paint and Play initiatives. Within the Paint initiative, The Mars Agency employees will be painting a mural designed by The Mars Agency's own Brad Fitzgerald, which was selected by local residents from several custom designs.

Other agency offices in Bentonville, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Berkeley, Seattle, New York and Toronto will take part in the volunteer initiative by spending the day with local hospitals, food banks and animal shelters within their communities.

The Mars Agency's annual Global Citizenship Day is just one component of Start Small – its corporate social responsibility initiative that successfully launched in 2012 with the pledge of giving back $1 million to local communities. The name Start Small is reflective of the belief that we can all do small things to improve our communities that make a difference now. Other components of Start Small include individual employee volunteer days, paid sabbaticals and community drives.
