NEW YORK, May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Cheap Concert Tickets (www.cheapconcerttickets.me) announces that The Monkees, one of the most iconic bands of the 1960's, is going to be on tour this summer, and they are expected to gather a new generation of fans while they do it.  It's The Monkees live and on tour once again.

What started as a group of four musicians on TV, which later became a real band after the show stopped airing, had an unqualified success as musicians. Some would say that they were more successful as a band than they were as a TV starts acting as members of a band. The Monkees songs never left the musical consciousness, as there was always one band or singer who sang a Monkees cover and made it their own. The CGI animated movie proved that they were popular as ever when it included the Monkees song "I'm a Believer." Even Britain's Got Talent's Susan Boyle has a recording of "Daydream Believer" one of the band's biggest hits.

They did prove that they were serious musicians with their own style of music and a large following. In 1968, they sold more records than the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined. That is saying a lot for these 1960's icons.

With the untimely death of Davy Jones last year, the remaining members of the band, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith decided to revive the band. They had a mini tour in 2012, and will be touring 24 cities this year. Dubbed "A Midsummer's Night with the Monkees", this is a result of the resurgent demand for more shows.

The concert tour will kick off in Port Chester, NY, on July 15th and will run through August 18th culminating in Portland, OR. The band is looking forward to singing their old hits, in chronological order. This would be more of a reunion cum nostalgia tour, with video footage from their early years. Of course, there would be lots of audience participation, with the fans singing along for the most part of the show. Although there are bigger acts from the 1960s and the 1970s which will go on tour this year, none of them are going to be more nostalgia-filled than the Monkees.

It has been a while since since their fans last saw them, and since their 2012 mini tour, there have been talks about taking the show on a worldwide concert tour. The 2013 tour might even be extended to Europe. There have also been rumors of possible shows in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe, South America (especially Brazil where they have a huge following), Australia and New Zealand, and Japan.
