As part of the new venture, The Sacramento Press will continue to develop social media assets with SFBFS.
"We are excited to partner with SFBFS to assist them in utilizing and completely embracing online social media. The SFBFS provides such an invaluable asset to our community, and it's critical that everyone is aware of the breadth of their services, how and where they can donate, and how to volunteer," said Lynn Mayugba, Vice President of Corporate Strategy for The Sacramento Press. "We have an in-house social media expert who will be working closely with them to make the best use of online social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter. These outlets will help get the word out about SFBFS for people who need their services, as well as to those who want to make donations or volunteer. Social media is just another way of spreading the word about this great organization and reinforcing what they offer our community and those in need."
One of the first big announcements being promoted in the new online digital partnership is SFBFS' 16th annual Run to Feed the Hungry (www.runtofeedthehungry.com/), the proceeds of which help support the many services provided by SFBFS.
Slated for Thursday, Nov. 26, the 5K and 10K fun run and walk is the largest Thanksgiving Day run in the country. More than 30,000 participants are expected to take part in the run and walk, and at least 500 volunteers will be on hand to distribute water, direct traffic, and disburse t-shirts.
Registration is open for those who want to participate in the run, which begins at 8:45 a.m. for the 10K and 9:05 for the 5K. Cost of entry is $35 for adults and $20 for youth 15 and under. Those who can't attend the run but would like to participate as virtual runners also are welcome. Additionally, volunteers over the age of 18 still are needed. Information on registration, teams, volunteering and virtual runners is available online at www.runtofeedthehungry.com.
Those who can't participate in the fun run are encouraged to donate, volunteer, and learn more about the services provided by The Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services at its new website, www.sacramentofoodbank.org/.
