LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- By 2030, approximately 8 million people will die from tobacco use, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).  On World No Tobacco Day, The Safecig, one of the largest electronic cigarette companies in the U.S., reaffirms its commitment to help save the lives of millions of addicted smokers by telling them to put down their tobacco and pick up an e-cig.

"Electronic cigarettes look, act, and feel like a cigarette to the smoker – but don't contain any of the deadly carcinogens that are found in tobacco cigarettes," says John Cameron , CEO of The Safecig and brother of director James Cameron .  "We have the technology to save millions of lives with electronic cigarettes.  I truly believe that in the next ten years, we can radically change the way people smoke and today, World No Tobacco Day, is the first step in doing so."

Electronic cigarettes are a modern, effective alternative to deadly tobacco cigarettes which contain 4,000 harmful chemicals. They contain just four simple ingredients – water, food flavoring, vaporizing fluid and nicotine.  Since no smoke is produced (just water vapor), e-cigs eliminate the risk of second-hand smoke and can be used anywhere.

Unlike other products created to help smokers kick their tobacco habit, e-cigs address the chemical, tactile, and social dependency of smoking, making them far more effective.

"Half of the smoking addiction is the social and physical aspect of it," continued Cameron.  "The need to carry around the pack, pull the cigarette out, feel it on your lips, and inhale/exhale is half of the addiction that a smoker struggles with.  Electronic cigarettes have revolutionized the way people kick their tobacco habit because they fulfill the chemical, social and tactile need to smoke."

A half a billion dollar a year industry, e-cigs have already proven to be highly effective in helping smokers kick their tobacco habit.  "The truth is, e-cigarettes have the potential to help the 20 percent of Americans who remain addicted to smoking," says Dr. Gilbert Ross , Medical Director, Executive Director, The American Council on Science and Health (ACSH).

Founded in 2007, The Safecig is one of the first companies to introduce electronic cigarettes to the American market and is now one of the largest in the world. www.TheSafecig.com.
