SAN FRANCISCO, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sak, a leader for 20 years in the handbag industry, announces its recent organizational re-structure aimed at driving teamwork, innovation, and empowerment -- a change that has been many years in the making and spearheaded by co-founder Mark Talucci.

The Sak began 20 years ago as a company based on entrepreneurship and three key motivating factors or mantras -- Trust, Action and Ownership. These ideals are apparent in all decision-making throughout the company spanning from employee selection to design and development. The new linear structure applies the company's cornerstone principles of TAO to the organizational and operational structure of the company. It uses alternative practices that may be considered unconventional, and thought to be "radical" approaches to business such as no chain of command and the use of committees in the decision making process.

"Our new strategy encourages natural leaders vs. appointed leaders, free thinking and a no fear mentality," said Mark Talucci, co-founder of The Sak. "The success or failure of the company is relied upon by a contribution from every employee and it is a company-wide effort, not dependent on a single individual or a group of individuals. Accountability is a key motivational factor in the new structure, with responsibilities clearly defined and clearly executable and a lack of 'red tape' or authoritarian hierarchy that comes with working at most companies."

The new strategy includes the following practices:

  • A MENTOR STRUCTURE instead of bosses creating an open line of communication between employees and establishing a faster, more efficient decision-making structure. Selected mentors become trusted counselors or guides who help coach an individual's development.

  • CATEGORY CHAMPIONS as keepers of shared values and principles. Their role is to serve and lead from behind and they are resources available to the entire company.

  • COMMITTEES to help implement teamwork based on a team structure.
