The Standard Launches Mainspring Retirement Plan Solutions(SM)

    PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Standard has announced the
 launch of Mainspring Retirement Plan Solutions(SM). The new product name
 coincides with the addition of a managed account solution to its group
 annuity platform as well as an overall enhanced product and service
 offering now available for plan sponsors and their participants.
     "Since the acquisition of Invesmart last year, we have been working
 toward our goal of being able to offer enhanced products and services to
 all our customers," said Kent Buckles, Vice President of Sales, Marketing
 and Advisory Services. "Creating a unique and memorable name allows us to
 deliver a unified product brand to the marketplace."
     All retirement plan products and services provided by The Standard are
 now sold under the Mainspring name. Mainspring Retirement Plan Solutions
 includes three participant planning tracks -- Mainspring Managed,
 Mainspring Guided and Mainspring Independent. Mainspring Managed replaces
 the name Advice Path, which has been available through the trust platform
 since its inception in October of 2004.
     The Mainspring solution is available through either the group annuity
 or trust product platform offered by The Standard.
     As part of the new product name launch, new participant education
 materials have been created, including enhanced account statements, sponsor
 and participant newsletters, plan enrollment kits and online planning
 tools. Educational materials have been created for distribution channel
 partners of The Standard as well. The company is also running a new
 advertising campaign in selected trade publications.
     The Standard has provided retirement plan services for more than 70
 years. Full and recordkeeping-only services are available on a trust
 platform in all states and a group annuity platform in all states except
 New York. The Standard promotes a participant-centric approach with
 services such as Mainspring Managed, its managed account option for plan
