The University of Chicago Women's Business Group Tackles Life Transitions at its Fall Symposium
CHICAGO, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The University of Chicago
Women's Group (UCWBG) is gearing up to host its Fall Symposium,
Transitions: Moving Forward with Your Life Journey, on October 17, 2007, at
the Mid America Club in downtown Chicago. The organization will provide a
development and networking experience for its members and other Chicago
area women professionals focused on the topic of life transitions. During
their careers women face unique challenges not only balancing their
personal and professional goals, but also anticipating the best ways to
achieve their personal definitions of success. Issues such as pursuing
professional goals within an established organization or starting a
business; seeking fulfillment within a current organization or considering
another option; or downshifting a career in order to have children, meet
family obligations, or prepare for retirement. The symposium will help
women with these choices.
Gail Schoenbeck, UCWBG President, says, "We developed the transitions
symposium in response to questions from our members and our professional
women partners. They want help with their transitions and sometimes have
difficulty finding it in their work environment. Our organization provides
a safe haven where women can gain insights to aid them in their decision
making." While each person has her unique experience, everyone has the
common experience of going through a transition and making choices for
themselves.
The symposium begins with a general session that will introduce
transition's definition, types and stages followed by workshops offering
practical tools and techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to
attend two of the four workshops including: Building Your Brand, Maximizing
Your Network, Bringing Out Your Best through Coaching, and Creating Your
Financial Strategy. Sally Edwards, noted entrepreneur and professional
athlete, tops off the evening with her keynote speech, "Change the Game,
Win the Race". Sally will discuss how each person can be successful in his
or her transition and master the life they choose through creativity and
perseverance. Over the last 30 years, Sally has built a half dozen
businesses including Fleet Feet Sports, Heart Zones USA and her current
training and development venture, The Sally Edwards Company. As a founder
of the sport of triathlon, and 16-time finisher and former Master's world
record holder in the Ironman Triathlon, Sally has moved forward with her
life journey as well as inspired more than 160,000 Danskin Women's
Triathlon athletes to cross their finish line.
"Our organization's history has been one in providing thought
leadership on issues facing women in their professional and personal
lives," says Susan DeVito, UCWBG VP - Leadership Initiatives and Symposium
Co-Chair. She further states, "Transitions are important and we want to
create a community where women can share personal stories and provide
thoughts and guidance for each other."
The Symposium will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Mid
America Club, 200 E. Randolph Street, Chicago from 2:00pm - 8:00pm. Visit

About the University of Chicago Women's Business Group
The University of Chicago Women's Business Group ("UCWBG") is a
nonprofit alumnae association founded in 1980 to address the professional,
personal, and career developmental needs of women, primarily graduates of
the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. The UCWBG is
dedicated to providing a strong networking and enriching environment to
foster long term relationships between its members, friends, and community
partners. The UCWBG provides cutting edge thought leadership and
perspective to its members, the Chicago GSB and the business community.
Such thought leadership encompasses ways to build leadership and life
skills and emotional intelligence and to break barriers to success. It is
devoted to making the world a better place by actively setting the standard
and raising the bar. The UCWBG has been the source of several innovative
concepts including prompting the GSB to do an extensive alumnae study on
networks, career and family; linking Chicago-area professional women with
not-for-profit Boards; and developing the roundtable concept which has
since been adopted by the GSB.
