NEW YORK, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In March 2006 Joe Leonard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AirTran Holdings, Inc. and its subsidiary, AirTran Airways, Inc., took on a new role as The Wings Club's 64th President. As Wings Club President Mr. Leonard will focus on both augmenting the benefits of Club membership and increasing overall Club membership. Demonstrating the importance of membership value, in his first few weeks in office, he formed an ad hoc Strategic Planning Committee to develop some recommendations for enhancing it. Mr. Leonard also supports scholarship funding and will work to attract prominent luncheon speakers with timely messages of interest to the Club. A 30-year veteran of the commercial air transport industry, Mr. Leonard is currently the Chairman and CEO of AirTran Holdings, Inc. and AirTran Airways, Inc., a position he has held since 1999, when he joined the company. Before that move, he served as President and CEO of AlliedSignal, Inc.'s aerospace marketing, sales and service organization. He joined AlliedSignal in September 1993 to head marketing, sales and service where he was credited with improving customer satisfaction for the aerospace unit and leading growth strategy for the company. He was also a Senior Vice President of AlliedSignal, Inc. and a member of the corporation's Executive Council. Prior to joining AlliedSignal, Mr. Leonard held a wide range of executive positions. These included Chief Operating Officer for Eastern Air Lines as well as a number of key management positions at American Airlines, Northwest Airlines and the Boeing Company. In addition to his responsibilities at The Wings Club, which also includes serving his second three-year term on the Club's Board of Governors, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, The Commerce Club and Walter Industries, Inc. He is the recipient of the 2006 Tony Jannus Award. Mr. Leonard, who resides in Orlando, Florida, received his bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.
