    SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the opening of the
 2nd annual DWELL on Design conference and exhibition. The event is open to
 conference attendees Fri-Sun and the public Sat-Sun.
     The publishing brand best known by its tagline, "At home in the Modern
 World" opens this year's conference today with a stellar lineup of
 speakers. Moderated by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Journalist John
 Hockenberry, the program includes: DWELL(R) editor-in-Chief Sam Grawe and
 other editors; Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and The Edible Schoolyard;
 Craig Hartman, FAIA, and Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill who led the
 Treasure Island Redevelopment project; Reed Kroloff, Dean of Tulane's
 school of architecture; Steve Glenn of Living Homes and many more
 noteworthy luminaries.
     The theme of the conference, "Building Community in the Modern World,"
 is focused on eco-design and sustainable design and materials, and is
 intended to spark inspiration and dialogue between designers and
 enthusiasts. Mayor Gavin Newsom is expected to attend the Friday evening
 Opening Reception.
     Held at the San Francisco Concourse, at 8th and Brannan, the weekend
 includes 100+ preeminent exhibitors and a newly introduced public venue,
 DWELL OUTDOOR designed by Shades of Green, showcasing a ground-breaking
 pop-up prefab community. Five full-scale structures will be open for
 touring and exploration with architects and designers on-hand to provide
 additional insights and information. Installations include the weeHouse,
 Design Within Reach Airstream, the kitHaus and Modern Cabana. In addition,
 Zack/Devito will be assembling an InstaHouse in real time to demonstrate
 the ease of constructing a prefab house using materials designed for quick

     In partnership with AIA San Francisco, DWELL on Design will serve as
 the headquarters for the annual AIA/SF Living Home Tours. Tickets for the
 tours, given 11:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, are available
 at the Concourse.
