Thousands Protest Against the 'New War on Drugs' - Legal Psychiatric Labels, Experiments and Drug Use on Kids

The following is being issued by Citizens Commission on Human Rights:

WHAT: CHICAGO -- Thousands will gather to protest the American
Psychiatric Association's (APA) annual conference in Chicago,
Illinois, next Saturday, May 13. Protesters charge that the APA
invented and promoted fraudulent child "mental disorders" which
have led to the wholesale drugging of millions of normal American
schoolchildren and toddlers. The "War on Drugs" has taken on new
meaning, as national media focuses on a growing epidemic and
crisis: the legal drugging of children with mind-altering
            psychiatric drugs.

WHY: Children are being diagnosed with mental disorders such as
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which medical
experts say have no biologic/organic or scientific validity.
Parents are not informed of this nor warned about the potential
risks of psychiatric stimulants prescribed for "ADHD," including:
stunted growth, loss of appetite, addiction, and violent and
suicidal tendencies -- and even death. NBC Chicago recently
uncovered reports from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of
one psychiatric stimulant drug which has had 1334 adverse reactions
reported in the past 15 months alone, including convulsions, tics,
drug dependence, heart ailments, and death. It reported 51 cases
where a stimulant was suspected of taking a role in the patient's
            death.
In March, there was public outcry and national media over a Journal
of American Medical Association (JAMA) study which revealed the use
of antidepressants and stimulants in 2 to 4-year olds had doubled
and tripled between 1991 and 1995. The National Institute of
Mental Health (NIMH) announced it would indulge psychiatry with
another $6 million for a 5 year study on stimulant use in
preschoolers, an announcement that enraged parents as "morally
            reprehensible."
Psychiatric diagnoses have infested our education system, with
normal childhood behavior being redefined as mental disorders.
Across the country, parents are reporting that schools are being
turned into mental health clinics where their children have become
a target for profitable psychiatric diagnoses and, consequently,
parents have been pressured -- indeed, threatened -- to put their
            kids on mind-altering drugs.

     WHERE/
WHEN: On Saturday, May 13, protesters will begin marching at 11:00 am,
leaving from Federal Plaza (S. Dearborn and W. Adams Streets) and
marching to the Chicago Hilton and back again. After the march, a
concert and speakers will begin at 1:00 p.m. (to 2:00 p.m.) at
            Federal Plaza.

     WHO:   Speakers include Dr. Fred Baughman, Jr., a pediatric neurologist;
Dr. Julian Whitaker, head of the Whitaker Wellness Institute, and
Dr. Roberts Simonds, President of Citizens for Excellence in
Education, the largest Christian parents association in the U.S.
Parents who were forced to put their child on mind-altering drugs,
and who were recently featured on the CBS Evening News with Dan
Rather, will also speak. The rally is being organized by the
Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a psychiatric watchdog,
established by the Church of Scientology in 1969 to investigate
abuses in the mental health field.
