NEW YORK, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- DK Interactive learning, a leading
publisher of educational software, is proud to announce that three of its 1999
educational titles -- Smart Steps 1st Grade, I LOVE SPELLING and My First
Amazing Science Explorer -- have been awarded the National Parenting Center's
Seal of Approval.
"Recognition of this magnitude, and receiving so many other honors this
year, truly confirms that we're consistently on target when developing
educational software that appeals to both parents and children." said Mark
Stollar, vice president of DK Interactive Learning. In the past year alone,
the company has received numerous four-star ratings and gold awards for their
educational CD-ROMS, including three EDDIE Awards from ComputED for the best
software for use by educators, and two Good Toy Gold Awards from the UK's
National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries.
The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval program is an independent
testing process that gives parents, children, and educators the opportunity to
play with, build, read about, and judge a variety of products. Each is
evaluated based on level of desirability, sturdiness, interactive stimulation
and other key criteria. Test results are based on both statistical averaging
and comments received from the parent/testers. The Seal of Approval program is
designed to continue the efforts of The National Parenting Center, chartered
in 1989 to help create better-informed parents.
Smart Steps 1st Grade is one of the Smart Steps series, a comprehensive
collection of learning tools for children ages four to eight. The series
targets the literacy, numeracy and broader knowledge skills young children
need, and includes identifying letters, phonics, and multiplying and dividing
through 300 exercises, 80 animations and more than 600 graphics and
illustrations. Additionally, each Smart Steps CD-ROM includes a tracking
feature that provides a detailed chart showing what children have accomplished
and where they may still need to review.
I LOVE SPELLING is also one of a series, which includes, I LOVE MATH, I
LOVE SPELLING and I LOVE SCIENCE. Designed for children ages 7 through 11, I
LOVE SPELLING sends students on an intergalactic game-show adventure around
seven weird and wonderful planets to meet their funny inhabitants and
participate in challenging spelling games. The software supports a school-
based curriculum by covering topics that range from recognizing word families
and roots to learning common prefixes and suffixes. I LOVE SPELLING includes
5,000 essential spelling words graded into three levels of difficulty and
50 spelling-pattern word groups that target key spelling problem areas.
My First Amazing Science Explorer is the latest title in the award-winning
Explorer series. Designed for children ages five to nine, this CD-ROM answers
many of the tricky questions kids ask, building a basic foundation for
scientific learning as they conduct experiments, research answers and record
their findings. From the kitchen to the workshop, kids can explore eight
interactive environments packed with informative pop-ups, brain-tickling
questions and challenging activities. A printable science workbook lets kids
record their observations and ideas just like a real scientist.
