    PITTSBURGH, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in
embedded Linux(R) development tools and products, announced today the
immediate availability of the industry's first Linux 2.6-based Linux
Development Kits (LDKs) for the PowerPC processor architecture. The TimeStorm
LDKs include the Eclipse-powered TimeStorm Integrated Development Environment
(IDE) and a complete embedded Linux distribution based on the Linux 2.6 kernel
for the PowerPC 8260 processor. The LDKs enable embedded developers to quickly
take advantage of the improved capabilities offered by the new Linux kernel
and reduce the time and costs associated with embedded development processes.
The TimeStorm LDKs from TimeSys are designed to help developers simplify
the embedded Linux development process with the 2.6 Linux kernel by providing
a working embedded Linux distribution, cross-platform GNU toolchains, device
drivers for supported hardware platforms, and the TimeStorm IDE. This
combination of Linux and tools enables developers to more quickly take
advantage of enhancements available in the new Linux 2.6 kernel. These
enhancements include improved performance, improved device driver framework,
expanded connectivity (i.e. Bluetooth) support, support for headless systems
 and real-time responsiveness.
"Our products are enabling developers to realize the benefits of the Linux
2.6 kernel in their embedded systems," said TimeSys CEO, Larry Weidman. "Not
only can our development tools greatly accelerate the productivity of
organizations using Linux 2.6 with new or custom platforms, the tools also
allow them to test and validate all elements of their system and application
software, reducing the risk and cost of deployment of embedded Linux based
The new TimeStorm LDKs combine TimeSys' Eclipse-powered TimeStorm tools
with a fully functional, production-ready embedded Linux distribution based on
the 2.6 Linux kernel, including certified cross-platform GNU toolchains,
device drivers, complete root filesystem, and user documentation. The first
TimeStorm LDKs are ready to run on the Motorola PowerPC 8260 processor and
Intel IA32 processors, with support for additional processors and processor
architectures to follow in the coming months.
All of TimeSys' embedded Linux products and development tools are
available through TimeSys sales and distribution channels, and online
at www.timesys.com/buy . Pricing for the TimeStorm LDKs begins at $995 per
 developer seat, royalty-free.
