PITTSBURGH, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TimeSys(TM) Corporation and ADI
Engineering Inc. today announced a partnership in which TimeSys Linux(R) has
been named as the exclusive Linux distribution for ADI's family of XScale(TM)
development platforms. Together TimeSys and ADI will provide end-to-end
embedded Linux solutions for the design, development, and rapid deployment of
next generation data communications, networking, and high-performance embedded
applications of the Intel(R) XScale(TM) microarchitecture.
"TimeSys' enhancements to the Linux kernel under the GPL and their
accomplishments in the real-time space provide systems designers with the most
robust and high-performance embedded Linux solution available today," said ADI
Engineering president Steve Yates. "Using TimeSys' complete Linux products
and powerful extensions such as TimeSys Network Reservations, OEMs can create
whole new classes of applications. With our high-performance, high-bandwidth
reference platforms that take advantage of the XScale microarchitecture's
processing performance and low power consumption, we are providing OEM
engineers with a unique and complete "out of the box" solution that will
decrease the time-to-market and total cost of ownership of carrier-class
"Coupling ADI's reference platforms for the Intel XScale microarchitecture
with our Linux products is a compelling business proposition for OEM customers
as they realize solid returns in faster development, simplified migration for
systems designers, and longer product life," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman.
"Developers will get to market faster because they can focus on application
development for their product rather than board design or configuration of the
operating system. Also, with our Network Reservations product, OEM's can
protect their application functions for years in the future, regardless of
unforeseen overloads and application changes."
"TimeSys products make perfect sense for us, because they have a complete,
open Linux, yet have Real-Time, CPU and Network Reservations extensions that
quickly convert to measurable business value for our OEM's. Now they can
guarantee performance of applications by controlling their operating times,
and protect applications from overload conditions," said ADI Engineering
president Steve Yates. "Not only do these products deliver that value, but
the fact that TimeSys is able to quickly optimize its product line SDK's,
extensions and Tools to our boards is great news for our customers." The ADI
platforms offer a combination of dual Ethernet ports, PCI and PMC expansion
slots, and unmatched sustained memory bandwidth.
In coming months, TimeSys and ADI will supply a complete Linux product
suite specifically for ADI's BRH and Quinque platforms. This suite starts
with providing Linux developers with a targeted SDK as a solid supported
product, including an end-to-end embedded Linux development environment, a
complete Linux distribution with over 190 Linux packages and utilities, the
industry's lowest latency, fully preemptible Linux kernel, Linux cross-
platform and board hosted GNU toolchains, complete "to-the-edge of the board"
set of certified device drivers, user and API documentation, and loadable
kernel modules that convert TimeSys Linux into a fully featured Real-Time
Operating System (RTOS).
Additionally, TimeSys brings all the Linux tools needed for OEM's to
create new value, such as TimeStorm(TM), a Windows-hosted IDE with cross-
platform capabilities; TimeTrace(R), a Windows-hosted target platform for
event tracing, timing analysis and visualization tool; and TimeWiz(R), a
Windows-hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool.
TimeSys is a pioneer and leader in Embedded Linux and Java development
technologies. Its products allow design engineers to leverage the power,
flexibility and reliability of a new class of development tools for advanced
embedded systems for a variety of markets and applications, covering the
complete performance range from non-real-time to deterministic hard real-time,
using both open-source and proprietary technologies. TimeSys is considered
the top choice by systems architects for developing more robust, less
expensive, single API Linux solutions for embedded systems. TimeSys was the
first to create a reservation technology that guarantees system response, even
in overloaded systems. TimeSys solutions offer completely predictable and
fast response time performance. For more information about TimeSys, please
