TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Although managing money is an important life skill, some parents will talk to their sons and daughters about the birds and the bees -but not the bills.
Fortunately, giving your child a financial foothold is as easy as opening a GTE Federal Credit Union U22 account. Designed specifically for 12 to 22-year-olds, U22 educational materials include brochures and an online library of articles about personal finance written expressly for this age group. Account tools include a debit card with reward points, online and mobile account access, free bill pay, and one overdraft fee forgiven per month.
While Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, the first U22 spokesman, continues to promote the account, GTE FCU today introduced two new faces as U22 spokespeople. The first, "Suite" Caroline Kudelko, is a young singer/songwriter and musician who performs locally and has captured the attention of music industry executives in Nashville and Los Angeles. The second, college student and aspiring actor Alex Perez, was chosen from 125 youths who auditioned to represent U22 at a casting call coordinated by the credit union and partner agency CEA Marketing in June or submitted a video audition on YouTube.
U22 ads featuring Alex began running today on Tampa Bay-area radio and TV stations, and on billboards.
Caroline and Alex will keep their fellow U22 account holders and the public updated on their activities and pursuit of their financial goals via blogs, videos and website updates at www.u224u.com. They join Evan Longoria as well as a character named Kathy, who provides the 'Mom' perspective. She discusses the importance of teaching your children smart money-management and give tips on how to do so.
U22 can be found on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. To entice 12 to 22-year-olds to visit MyU22 on MySpace and become a friend of the page by August 31, 2009, drawings will be held for a number of prizes, including two tickets to see the band Blink 182. Those who open a U22 account by September 5, 2009, will receive two Rays tickets and a chance to meet Longoria before the game.
