Top Industry Analyst Firm Sees Inxight as a 'Company to Watch' in New Report On Automatic Text Categorization
Inxight Recognized for Technology Approach, Market Reach and Viability
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Inxight, a leading provider of
software solutions for understanding and effectively using unstructured data,
is listed as a "company to watch" in Gartner Inc.'s new report titled,
"Technology Update: Automatic Text Categorization." The report analyzes
several data classification methods, approaches and business applications to
help enterprises define how they will achieve return on investment after
implementing a text categorization solution. An independent industry research
and advisory firm, Gartner recognized Inxight for its technology approach,
market reach and estimated viability.
According to Gartner, enterprises are increasingly applying text
categorization technology to automate a process traditionally handled by
librarians and other information professionals. Because the volume of
available electronic text data has exploded since 1992, manual text
categorization has become increasingly expensive and is no longer feasible.
Backed by more than 70 patents, Inxight's complete, scalable Unstructured
Data Management solutions -- used by more than 200 companies worldwide
-- provide a solid method for delivering precise and relevant information from
unstructured text data sources such as Web pages, email and word processing
documents that comprise up to 85 percent of all corporate data.
"The text categorization market is quickly evolving with new trends in
technology and applications and new issues for users," said Alex Linden,
Research Director of Advanced Technology at Gartner. "Text-intensive
industries, such as the media, government, investment banking, life sciences
and insurers, will particularly benefit from the automation of text
categorization."
"We are thrilled that Gartner has listed us as 'one to watch in the area
of text classification, as it reinforces our growing leadership in the
Unstructured Data Management market," said John C. Laing, Inxight's president
and CEO. "With Inxight SmartDiscovery, we deliver the most powerful solution
for understanding and utilizing corporate data assets, which enables our
customers to do their jobs much more effectively."
In its analysis, Gartner assessed over 21 vendors that support the process
of text categorization, a process that involves organizing text data into
pre-defined categories. The research examined various vendor methods to
automate or support text categorization that includes rule-based
categorization, machine-learning-based categorization and ontology-based
categorization.
