Toshiba Launches High Resolution, Full-Color 20.8-inch LCD on World Market

    TOKYO, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba Corporation today announced that
 it will launch a slim, compact, high-resolution, 20.8-inch full-color LCD in
 the U.S. and European markets in the third quarter of 2001.  Expressly
 designed for highly demanding industrial applications, the 3,200 x 2,400 QUXGA
 display supports 8-million pixels and offers unrivaled resolution and
 razor-sharp screen images.
     The new display unites high-level performance with an industry-leading
 large display.  An unmatched 0.132-millimeter dot pitch supports 192 pixels
 per inch (PPI) -- and image density as sharp as in high quality printed
 materials -- while the 20.8-inch screen is large enough to display a full
 A3-sized sheet of paper.  The combination of high resolution and large size
 will bring a full-color display to industrial applications, where the need to
 work with large, high-resolution images has previously meant a reliance on
 black and white display tubes.  The new full-color LCD is suited to such
 demanding tasks as creating maps and engineering drawings, the analysis of
 aerial and satellite photographs, and viewing complex documents such as,
 patent applications, all of which demand precise images and large displays.
 In fact, the image quality of the new display is high enough to reproduce
 works of art.
     A further advantage to the new display is its small footprint.  The base
 of the display is only 240 millimeters deep, while the display itself is only
 113.5 millimeters deep.
     Toshiba targets sales of 3,000 units worldwide in the first year of
 marketing.  The new LCD will be displayed at CeBIT 2001, the world's biggest
 trade fair, in Hannover, Germany, from March 22 through 28.
