Treasurer McCord's Message to PA Women Entrepreneurs: Go Get the Money!

First in a series of events to be held across the Commonwealth focusing on the Federal Stimulus

SCRANTON, Pa., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord today hosted the first in a series of events across the Commonwealth that he designed to help women entrepreneurs find business opportunities in our nation's new economy. Nearly 75 women from across Northeastern Pennsylvania attended the day-long seminar at The University of Scranton, which provided information and tools to help women entrepreneurs evaluate and secure business opportunities resulting from the federal stimulus package and other federal programs.

"Nationally, women-owned firms employ nearly 13 million people and generate $1.9 trillion in sales -yet they only received 3.4 percent of federal contracts in 2006," Treasurer McCord said. "If there's one sector that's growing right now, it's government and with the increase in spending resulting from the Recovery Act, the world's largest buyer of goods and services will become even larger.

"Pennsylvania women business owners provide the entrepreneurial drive that creates jobs, wealth, and purpose for many Pennsylvanians - exactly what we need to strengthen our Commonwealth's economy and invest in its future."

Today's event in Scranton launched Treasurer McCord's Women & Money Project, an umbrella program he developed to support projects and partnerships that contribute to women's success at those stages where they could become economically vulnerable.

"Today's event was power-packed, connecting attendees not only with resources and strategies to grow their businesses in this challenging economy, but also providing a fantastic networking and learning opportunity," Treasurer McCord said. "I look forward to continuing this success at our future events throughout the state."

Treasurer McCord partnered with Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) to host these events across the Commonwealth. The series continues with fall events in York and Philadelphia. Check back often to www.patreasury.org for registration details.
