Tweet To Give? Non-Profit Advocates Take To Twitter During the Holidays
- TweetToGive.org Raises Funds for CARE to Help Women Around the World, Earns Key Supporters Including Ivanka Trump -
NEW YORK, Dec. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- "Brother, can you spare a Tweet?" has been a question posed across the social media landscape this Holiday season, as advocates for charitable causes seek to build on the inclination of users to share information and interests. But it may be the question, "Sister, can you spare a Tweet?" that's suddenly gaining momentum.
CARE, the renowned humanitarian organization founded in 1945, has embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise more than $2.5 million over the Holiday season for a program to lift women and girls around the world out of poverty.
The organization has employed 21st century techniques in spreading the word about the campaign through social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook, and has also gained advocates among social media aficionados in key markets.
M&G/PACE:connect, a New York City-based social influence marketing practice active in the travel and hospitality sectors, launched a campaign early in December in support of CARE's efforts, called "TweetToGive."
The campaign earned the attention of Ivanka Trump and executives at the Trump® Hotel Collection, who contributed in various ways including the donation of a complimentary weekend stay at the soon to open Trump SoHo(TM) New York, in order to draw followers and fans to the TweetToGive campaign.
A single Tweet about the campaign from Ivanka Trump on her Twitter account @IvankaTrump immediately led to hundreds of new followers for @TweetToGive, according to Burns Patterson, a director at M&G/PACE:connect who is heading up the campaign. "We reached out to the luxury travel industry for assistance, and are thrilled to receive the support of Ivanka Trump and the Trump Hotel Collection. We hope our efforts can make a modest contribution, both financially and by building awareness for CARE's mission to help women and entire communities around the world."
Anyone over 18 who becomes a follower of the @TweetToGive Twitter account, or a fan of the TweetToGive Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TweetToGive through January 15th, 2010, is automatically entered in a sweepstakes to win a weekend stay for two at Trump SoHo New York.
More information about the campaign, sweepstakes rules and a link to CARE's secure donation page is available at www.TweetToGive.org.
