Twin Sisters Productions awarded Publishing Innovation Awards' QED Seal of Approval during its 25th year in business
STOW, Ohio, Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Twin Sisters Productions, a leader in children's educational and inspirational music and books, received the Publishing Innovation Awards (PIA) Quality, Excellence, Design (QED) Seal of Approval for three of its e-book titles, adding to list the of accomplishments to celebrate during the publisher's 25th anniversary.
The annual PIAs provide the QED Seal of Approval emblem to e-book titles that will render well in various formats. This "reassures readers that they can read the title where they want, how they want," according to the PIA website.
Twin Sisters' three awarding-winning titles are "Down Through the Chimney," a precious tale of a child who spies on Santa during Christmas night; "It's Night-Night Time," a comforting poem about mothers tucking their babies in bed; and "Ten in the Bed," a rendition about what happens when ten teddy bears cuddle, laugh and roll over in a big, comfy bed. These e-books, along with Twin Sisters' other 117 titles, are available on Nook, iBooks, Google Books and 11 other formats.
"I can't explain how excited we are to have earned the PIA QED Seal of Approval," Karen Mitzo Hilderbrand, the CEO and co-owner of Twin Sisters, said. "Looking back, it's amazing to think how far we have come from our 'Rap with the Facts' tape. From cassette tapes to CDs to digital music downloads to now apps and e-books with music, we've gone through many exciting and challenging transitions."
It all started with an assignment Karen's fraternal twin sister Kim Mitzo Thompson, president and co-owner of Twin Sisters, had while earning her Master's degree in Integrating the Arts into the curriculum. She wanted to create an educational song that would not only fulfill her assignment requirements but that would be helpful for her students at Hazel Harvey Elementary School in Doylestown, Ohio. She wrote "Rap with the Facts" and her professor loved it- so did her students.
Between her professor's suggestions, an overwhelming demand for the rap and Karen's encouragement, the two found themselves working with an arranger, and "the rest seems like history" as Kim says. In November 1987, Kim and Karen officially founded Twin Sisters.
"When I wrote 'Rap with the Facts,' I had no idea what effect it would have on my life and the lives of so many children," Kim said. "What I thought would be a rap to help my third-grade students at Hazel Harvey Elementary learn the multiplication facts turned into a vast collection of educational and inspirational materials for students far beyond my classroom."
Twin Sisters has continually proved its innovative ability to adapt to the digital environment and has grown to become the leader in children's educational music. Its ever-expanding product line includes digital songs, e-books, read- and sing-along books, CDs, floor puzzles and educational workbooks. Over the years, these products have been nationally recognized by the Record Industry Association of America, National Parenting Publications, Association of Educational Publishers, Parents' Choice and others.
More recently, Twin Sisters has made another step onto the digital platform with its Children's Book and Music experience reward for the battery-powered Dynamics ePlate credit card device. This allows consumers to earn Twin Sisters digital e-book and music content with purchases using their Dynamics ePlate.
"Although technology and children's learning needs are ever changing the way we function, one thing remains the same: music is a great teaching tool," Karen said. "Twin Sisters will continue to create avenues to make learning easier through music for students across the world."
