Two Major Universities Join Nation's Leading Postgrad Bio Job Board

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Two more prestigious universities have joined Bio Career Center, the nation's leading online job board and careers site for life science professionals.

Northwestern and Columbia University are now members of the job board, joining 28 other major life science training Institutions.

The job board, www.biocareercenter.com, is only for post-graduates in the life sciences. While there are hundreds of life science career sites on the Internet, Bio Career Center is the only one that serves life science post-graduates exclusively.

Bio Career Center's institution consortium consists of UCLA, Brown, NYU, Georgetown, Stanford, Berkeley, Brown, Caltech, Emory, Georgetown, M.D. Anderson, Michigan State, New York University, Scripps Institute, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California at San Francisco, University of Colorado Denver, University of Miami, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Pennsylvania, University of Washington, Vanderbilt and Weill Cornell.

Kathryn Espiritu, Columbia University's director of Post Doctoral Affairs, said that the university decided to join Bio Career Center to provide career services for its approximately 1,100 postdoctoral trainees, something that has been lacking.

"Our postdocs have been very excited about it," she said. "We have a diverse group of postdocs and I think that Bio Career Center will provide some great career advisement."

Developed with the Stanford Medical School director of career services, www.biocareercenter.com is constructed for P.h.D.s, M.D.s and other post-graduates who are looking for efficient ways to manage their careers. From industry articles and assessment tools to relevant job postings, Bio Career Center is a comprehensive and free career resource center. Job seekers have access to opportunities including academia, biopharmaceutical and government as well as vertical markets like consulting, public health and science policy.

Bio Career Center organizes qualified candidates to save recruiters time and shorten the hiring process. The site has become an industry leader because it offers employers high-quality candidates with strong life sciences educational backgrounds. In fact, more than half of Bio Career Center's candidates are alumni. Other job boards include applicants from a host of fields and education levels, requiring employers to sort through stacks of resumes that are not targeted to their needs.

About Bio Career Center

Bio Career Center features a job board that gathers the life sciences post-graduate and clinical communities of all member schools (including the alumni of the members, which account for more than 50 percent of the candidates) into one place, a staff that liaises with employers, and deep and rich content that focuses on the many career options for life sciences Ph.D.s and M.D.s. Bio Career Center can be accessed via member (university) Web sites or at www.BioCareerCenter.com. The service is free to students and alumni of member institutions.
