Tyco Electronics Introduces New AMP NETCONNECT Labeling Software

New Software Solution Improves Identification of Cabling System Components to

Simplify Network Installation and Management

Sep 17, 2001, 01:00 ET from Tyco Electronics

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Electronics, a unit of Tyco
International, Ltd., today announced the introduction of its new AMP
NETCONNECT professional labeling software package that is designed to help
network installers and in-house administrators greatly improve the
identification of a full array of cabling system components. This includes
AMP NETCONNECT patch panels, cross connect systems, faceplates, workstation
outlets and 4- and 25-pair cable types.
"As wiring closets and premises cabling systems become more complex and
strategic, it is imperative to accurately and legibly identify the wide range
of components typically installed in an enterprise," says Brian Davis, product
manager for Tyco Electronics. "Not only is this important for tracking down
component-level problems when troubleshooting cabling systems, but it is also
helpful conducting a site inventory. The new AMP NETCONNECT labeling software
does away with manually produced paper labels which may not last or be legible
over time. Neat, legible labels will save installers considerable time and
The new, simple-to-use Windows(R)-based labeling software, which is
compatible with PCs and laser and inkjet printers, is pre-loaded with
templates for labeling connectors, patch panels, cable applications and more.
Port and cable spacings are pre-positioned, enabling users to enter their
sequences and print, simply and accurately.
"We continue to see installers using hand held devices to create plastic
labels which are not designed to adhere to communications equipment," explains
Davis. "With many communications rooms now generating increased levels of
heat and using high levels of forced ventilation, such methods quickly degrade
and fail in readability or adhesion or both. The labels produced by the new
AMP NETCONNECT labeling software are specifically designed for such
environments to provide professional looking, long-lasting results."
Labels generated by the new AMP NETCONNECT labeling software are available
in 8.5" x 11" sheets that feed through printers easily. A number of the
labels are available in TIA/EIA 606A compliant colors. In addition to
offering pre-cut and perforated sheets, the new labels feature adhesive
capabilities specifically designed for today's communications equipment as
well as abrasion and fade resistance.
The AMP NETCONNECT labeling software and labels are available now through
authorized AMP NETCONNECT distributors. A Freeware version of the software is
available at www.ampnetconnect.com/labeling. More information is available by
