NEW YORK, June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- UBS AG and Big City Moms, the premiere social event group for working mothers in New York City, today announced their joint sponsorship of a June 14, 2011, event to launch the widely acclaimed new book, TORN: True Stories of Kids, Career & the Conflict of Modern Motherhood, published by Coffeetown Press.

The evening will highlight the steps that corporate America is taking to pave the way to better work-life integration for today’s working parents. Featured influential guests include: Samantha Ettus, best-selling author and personal branding expert; Audra Lowe, co-host of Better TV, a nationally syndicated lifestyle show; Lisa Belkin, author and editor at The New York Times; and Heather Cabot, Yahoo! Web Life Editor.

"The financial services industry presents unique challenges to working parents, especially working moms, and these issues must be frankly examined and discussed so the best solutions can be found.  At UBS, we have made great strides toward work-life balance, but we welcome any new ideas that might make our employees' work and home lives richer and more fulfilled.  We are pleased to sponsor the launch of TORN as a way of continuing the dialogue on this important issue," said CiCi Holloway, Head of Diversity and Inclusion for the Americas for UBS.

In TORN, edited by Samantha Parent Walravens, 47 women examine the conflict between the need to nurture and the need to work and reveal creative solutions for having the best of both worlds. Neal Pollack of Vanity Fair said the book is "a poignant look at how a generation of mothers is trying to forge its own identity while honoring the legacy of 60s and 70s feminism."

"It's exciting to see large companies like UBS putting in place programs to better accommodate the needs of working parents. TORN is a vital contribution to our ongoing discussion about work-life balance," said Risa Goldberg, Founder of Big City Moms.
