    CLEVELAND, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Within3 today announced a partnership
with UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) to enhance networking and
information sharing among medical residents in the Department of Psychiatry
and Biobehavioral Sciences. UCLA will join the Within3 network to
facilitate collaboration among current residents and to encourage
professional relationship-building - within and beyond the department -
among members of the academic and clinical psychiatry community.
Ranked third in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in 2007, UCLA's
Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences resides within the
David Geffen School of Medicine and is home to the faculty, medical
students, interns, residents, and postgraduate fellows who are interested
in the origins of and treatments for disorders of complex human behavior.
The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital is UCLA's flagship
location for patient care. It has consistently been ranked among the top
ten facilities nationwide by U.S. News & World Report and was judged to
have demonstrated "exemplary performance" by the Joint Commission on the
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and was awarded the
Commission's highest accolade, Accreditation with Commendation.
John Luo, M.D., associate professor of psychiatry at UCLA and author of
a number of articles on network-based technologies, said, "The Within3
platform offers a unique tool to enhance connectivity, collaboration, and
opportunities for physicians and other professionals in the health
sciences. Networking is extremely important for all health care
professionals and is crucial for those in the early stages of their career
development. Through Within3, we will be able to help our residents build
rich professional networks, and utilize those networks to find new
information and contacts, as well as raise their own visibility."
Brian Smith, Ph.D., a co-founder of Within3 said, "It is exciting to
see an institution like the UCLA Department of Psychiatry - with its
impressive reputation in patient care, research, and education -
integrating career development and professional networking into its
curriculum. Many physicians leave residency with excellent clinical and
research skills, but have had little training in the networking skills
required for achieving their professional goals - it's great to see UCLA
taking a lead in closing that gap."
Lance Hill, CEO of Within3, said, "We have seen tremendous growth in
the Psychiatry community on Within3, and we are very pleased to welcome
UCLA's Psychiatry Department among the ranks. Our members are from diverse
backgrounds - some are principally engaging in research activities at major
academic institutions, while others are focused on patient care in remote
settings. UCLA's decision to join Within3 further demonstrates Within3's
unique ability to provide value across settings, disciplines, interests,
and stages of professional and career development."
Within3 is the fastest growing, international, interdisciplinary
community for health care professionals online. Within3 fuses social
network science and proprietary Internet technology to enable a valuable
