Under Armour Gameday Jersey Auction and Custom Apparel Sales Raises Over $130,000 for Wounded Warrior Project
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Wounded Warrior Project and Under Armour (NYSE: UA) today announced the results of the online auction of custom Under Armour gameday jerseys worn by University of South Carolina and University of Maryland football players against University of Florida and Virginia Tech, respectively, on November 14 for the first Wounded Warrior Project Games.
Under Armour black and desert camouflage uniforms featuring the Wounded Warrior Project logo were developed to honor the sacrifices made by those who have served and those that continue to serve in our nation's Armed Forces. The gameday jerseys, which included the warrior character traits of Duty, Honor, Courage, Commitment, Integrity, Country and Service in place of the players' last names, proved extremely popular as a total of 227 jerseys were auctioned off between the two schools to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the custom fan gear was also donated, raising a total of over $130,000.
"We are extremely thankful to Under Armour and both universities for their support of this special initiative," said Steven Nardizzi, executive director of the Wounded Warrior Project. "The success of the auction and overwhelming interest in these specially created uniforms speaks volumes about the unique ways we can give back to the men and women who have served and sacrificed so much."
"We are thrilled at the success of the first two Wounded Warrior Project Games," said Bryan Offutt, Under Armour senior manager, tactical. "Under Armour is privileged to partner with the Wounded Warrior Project and support their mission of honoring and empowering the many men and women who have been injured while protecting our country."
